Tap Compensation

Understanding and Adjusting Tap Compensation

Tap Compensation ensures your guests aren’t charged for the small amount of beer that flows when a line refills after sitting idle or when a tap is opened without an RFID card.
This automatic feature is calibrated by PourMyBeer technicians during installation and rarely requires adjustment.

What Is Tap Compensation?

When a tap is opened, there may be a brief delay or gap in liquid flow. The Tap Compensation setting ensures that any beer poured during the first fraction of a second—usually caused by the line refilling—is not billed to the customer.

This feature protects guests from being charged for small, unavoidable pours that occur during system refill.

Step 1: Access the Tap Compensation Settings

  1. Place your Admin Card on the tap screen.

  2. Tap Configure Valves.

  3. Select the Line you wish to view or adjust.

Step 2: Review the Compensation Values

You’ll see several calibration values that control the behavior of the tap system:

  1. Tap Compensation Value

    • Defines the small offset used to ignore the refill pour when a line first activates.

    • Typically set by your PourMyBeer installer and rarely needs to be changed.

    • Adjustment example: If customers are seeing slightly less beer than displayed, reduce this value slightly.

  2. Uninterrupted Compensation Value

    • Ensures compensation is applied consistently when lines activate in rapid succession or during back-to-back pours.

    • Prevents false charges during fast tap transitions.

  3. Minimum Flow Rate

    • Sets the minimum number of pulses required to register a valid pour.

    • If this threshold is not met, the system disables the line to prevent inaccurate readings.

    • To restore service, restart the tap screen after resolving any blockage or flow issue.

These settings control flow sensitivity and are critical for maintaining accurate billing.

Step 3: When to Adjust

  • Only make adjustments if directed by PourMyBeer Support or a trained technician.

  • Incorrect calibration may cause inaccurate pour measurements or false tap shutdowns.

Step 4: Testing the Adjustment

After any change:

  1. Tap The Assigned Beer to apply new values.

  2. Pour a few ounces from the line and confirm the displayed amount matches the actual pour.

  3. If the tap disables due to minimum flow, check your keg pressure, line cleanliness, and flowmeter before restarting the screen.
