Activating Cards on the X5 Charger (Assigning Passphrase/Password)
Newly issued 2K desfire cards are blank. They must be activated on the X5 charger by assigning the current system passphrase before they can function as TTG system or customer cards.
Audience: Staff/Admins
Purpose: Newly issued 2K desfire cards are blank. They must be activated on the X5 charger by assigning the current system passphrase before they can function as TTG system or customer cards. We call this process "Activating" new cards.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Access the Admin Menu
- Place an Admin card on the X5 charger RFID reader.
-
-
This unlocks the charger’s menu functions.
-
-
Navigate to “Other Card Operations”
-
On the main screen, scroll to Other card operations.
-
Select the green Change card password tile (icon: padlock).
-
-
Review the “Card Password” Page
-
You will see two fields:
-
Old Password → Leave this blank unless you previously changed the TTG server card password and need to update existing cards.
-
New Password → This field is pre-populated with the current PourMyBeer TTG server card password from the system installation. It is greyed out and cannot be modified.
-
-
Tap the > arrow on the right side of the screen to continue.
-
-
Batch Apply Passphrase to Cards
-
On the Change card password screen, place one card at a time on the RFID reader.
-
If batch mode is enabled, you will see:
“Batch operation, place one card after the other on the RFID reader!”
If you do not see this, contact support to enable Batch Balancing Mode on your server. Without it, you must restart the process for each additional card.
-
-
Verify Success
-
After each card is written, the screen displays “Done!” with a green check-mark at the bottom.
-
Continue placing additional cards until all required cards are activated.
-
Notes
-
Cards cannot be used until they have been activated with the system passphrase.
-
The New Password always reflects the TTG server’s configured card passphrase; staff cannot change this value directly.
-
Enabling Batch Balancing Mode is highly recommended when activating multiple cards.
Troubleshooting
-
Message: Card not accepted after activation → Ensure the TTG server’s current passphrase matches what was applied.
-
Batch option not available → Open a support request to enable Batch Balancing Mode on the server.
-
Old cards failing after passphrase update → These need to be re-activated with the current system passphrase.
- Card operation failed. Possibly wrong Old password used. → This happens when a card is already activated with a password that is not the same as the New password field. In this case, you would need to remember what the Old password that was assigned to this card, go back to start this process over, and type that password into the Old password field. You should be able to change/re-assign the password to that card and continue on with your card creation journey.
